Steve Truman has worked exclusively in the ICT industry since 1987. Beginning his career in information technology, as an operator in the world of mainframes, prior to widespread PC availability, Steve has experienced and been actively involved in the pace of change, the development of corporate attitudes and rapid adoption of Information and Communications Technology. He has specialised in thin client and server based computing based on Microsoft and Citrix software since 1997.
For over 5 years, Steve has been central to a number of major programmes and projects with the UK´s largest telecommunications company. Programmes and projects that Steve has been involved with include internal server infrastructure and client rollout, plus extensive work on customer outsourcing projects:
healthcare
Requirements identification and capture for a national outsourced 24/7 call centre thin client server infrastructure including hot standby disaster recovery.
investments
Sole consultant for an upgrade project on the remote access server infrastructure for the investment arm of a leading high street bank. Roles included project planning, implementation, detailed documentation, systems testing, and hand over into service.
retail
Lead technical design authority for the first year of a five year ICT outsourcing contract with the UK´s leading plant hire supplier, handing the role to a permanent member of staff once designed, implemented and in live service. He was responsible for the design of a multiple data centre server infrastructure including the following non-exhaustive list of the technologies: thin client remote access server infrastructure; storage area network; resilient server infrastructure; resilient backup systems; wide area network based data replication; hosted data centre environment.
His roles included design architect; design authority; implementation; detailed, low level documentation; systems testing; technical design change control; migration planning; migration testing; deployment of clients to 400 sites; handover into service.
ict consultancy & outsourcing
Core member in the technical design team of a pilot, and live user environment desktop rollout within a major global ICT consultancy and outsourcing organisation. Roles included requirements identification, requirements capture, server infrastructure design, thin client server implementation, systems testing, migration. Steve was a core member of the team responsible for setting and reviewing corporate design and implementation standards for internal and external customer rollouts.
retail
Technical design architect on a pan European deployment of a thin client server infrastructure of over 150 servers for a worldwide car rental company in 7 European countries to 800 sites. Steve originally joined the team to lend his skills to the successful design, implementation, deployment, and handover into service of the multiple data centre server infrastructure, including deployment and support of local server infrastructure for 8 regional HQ sites. He was involved in service roles including change management and training the in life support teams to the highest levels. He was instrumental in the design and deployment of a back office thin client server infrastructure that provided European access to the European financial data processing and billing systems.
